Free Yourself Music Album Review
Congratulations Fantasia!

You did it again!!!

You would be more appealing to a broader cross section of audience, however, if you would just pipe down a bit and just be your effortless self in some instances. Giving your audience the optimum dosage of high voltage vocals, much like you did, for the most part, on American Idol; rather that going for a gross over kill too frequently.

At any rate, in my opinion, Your Debut album: Free Yourself is way above the average! It's an album that's worth more than its weight in gold!
I Believe / Chain of Fools / Summertime
Fantasia Barrino
Particulars:
  1. Ain't Gonna Beg: Excellent start and middle but I believe that Fantasia is a better performer when she does it effortlessly.
  2. Free Yourself: I have a mixed feeling about this cut. I thought that the melody and lyrics could be smoother; perhaps a bit more poetic or rhythmic at one or two places. Fantasia's performance was excellent however, although I'm not a fan of loud vocals other that for climatic purposes.
  3. Truth Is: one of the three best songs on the album, as far as I'm concern. This was an excellent all round performance!
  4. Selfish: other than an unnecessary comical introduction, this was an all round good up tempo performance.
  5. Summertime: on this version, Fantasia was superb as usual but I find the tempo of this rendition to be slightly disappointing. It was a bit too fast for the kind of message that Fantasia conveyed through the lyrics and her voice inflections.Maybe one should slow down the tempo of the song a bit to capture the intended mood of the lyricist. Works like these should never be rushed, in appearance or actuality. Fantasia's Idol performance was one of the best interpretation of this song that I know of, if not the best. With no fault of her own, the tempo of the album version did not measure up to her American Idol standards. I could be wrong, however; the problem could be mechanical or technical. At any rate, Fantasia was true to form, proving that she can handle any tempo with the poise of excellence.
  6. Baby Mama: excellent and catchy performance. A wonderful upbeat tribute to baby mamas around the world. In my opinion, this is one of the most meaningful and best three songs on the Free Yourself album.
  7. Got Me Waiting: Once again, this was Fantasia at her effortless best. I prefer it when she sings in such a fashion
  8. It's All Good: excellent up tempo Job in all aspects!!
  9. You Were Always On My Mind:Superb! just superb and nothing less! Another of the best of the album and perhaps one of the best versions of this song ever recorded.
  10. Good Lovin: smooth, real smooth and well done!
  11. Don't Act Right: another fantastic all round performance
  12. This Is Me: yet another lovely all round performance.
  13. I Believe: excellent all round performance; beautifully arranged, great interpretation, well done.
Overall, Free Yourself is way above the average. It's an album that's worth its weight in gold! Once again, congratulations Fantasia! You did it again!!! Just pipe down a bit and be your effortless self. Much like you did on American Idol in performing:
  1. Lets give em something to talk about
  2. A fool in love
  3. Crazy little thing called love
My dear, you are a winner and you have nothing to prove
